Jay Sutton is Executive vice president and chief operating officer for Southern Company Gas. In this role, he is responsible for designing and maintaining the integrity of the company’s infrastructure and standardizing operating procedures. Sutton is a member of the Southern Company Gas Management Council. Southern Company Gas is a subsidiary of Southern Company.

An engineer by training, Sutton brings more than 35 years of diverse company experience to his position. Before assuming his current role, Sutton served as senior vice president of operations services. He also served as vice president of engineering services and supply chain services, leading several organizations, including engineering, construction, supply chain management, fleet, occupational health, safety, crisis management and business continuity planning. In addition, he has had responsibility for centralizing and standardizing Southern Company Gas’ pipeline construction program and practices. Through his leadership, new procedures and technologies were implemented, resulting in improved customer service and significant cost reductions.

Sutton is a board member of Junior Achievement Georgia and serves on the American Gas Association Management Committee. He also is an active member of the Southern Gas Association.

Sutton received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson University and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Georgia.

A native of South Carolina, he and his wife live in Atlanta, Georgia.
